to my cool american friends

we interrupt this other overly 'poetic' blog for an important update de los exilios:

i am outraged at all those americans who leave
comments on lebanese blogs saying oh, i am really
sorry my tax money is used to bomb your people. and i
am also fed up with all of you who nag about this
crazy administration of yours and don't have the
courage to flee your country although you have
education, a beautifull soul and an american passport
that allow you to make it wherever you are and you are
still there paying for those murderers to go on
colonising and terrorising the world.

i really thought i will heal my wounds.
but there's no way to peace to my heart anymore.
this is endless war.
to all americans and israelis who still live on
american and israeli lands.
untill then,

best regards

though heartfelt, i find this sentiment ridiculously naive - if not outright racist and nationalist regarding what it means to be american. ding dong: many americans can't even spell "passport," let alone have one, or know what it does. many "cool americans" don't jump country to country comparing passport stamps, discussing art, artists, the gaze, their latest fellowship, award, or residency. perhaps i'm validating this statement by even responding to it (throwing a hissy fit), but just once, just once, i'd love it if folks who come to the states on their parents' diplomatic passports etc, go to openings hither and tither, i wish just once they would take a little stroll out of the arts districts or the newly gentrified hipster neighborhoods "cool american friends" live in, and check out some place, oh, i don't know, say like alabama, or arkansas, or utah, or watts, or i don't know, someplace not williamsburg.

this kind of sentiment also smacks of the ahistorical. folks have been struggling here since day 1. how do you boycott the boycotted? how do you silence the silenced?

give me a f-ing break.

i'm sure there have been countless americans throughout the decades and centuries who have wondered why over decades and centuries other countries have remained so silent.

ps: i'd love to know what the real ciudad tj what say to beirut, and what beirut, one not so naive, would say to tj. or does this beirut believe it is the only one?
